Bay put faith in team unity

Bailey's Bay have opted not to pick a single guest player for today's Eastern Counties clash with Cleveland at Sea Breeze Oval.

The challengers decided against bringing in former player Rodney Trott, as they adopted the approach of 'a team that stays together, plays together'.

After weeks of internal infighting, coach Irving Romaine has stuck with the league team that stood behind ex-skipper Stephen Outerbridge, and veteran bowler Corey Hill in their battle to over turn their suspensions.

And while Outerbridge is injured, Hill has been put straight into the Bay line-up, despite not playing for nearly a month.

Cleveland meanwhile have picked five guest players, bringing in Southampton Rangers' Jason Simons for Stephen Douglas in the only change to the side that beat Flatts two weeks ago.

Simons is joined by club team-mates Dion Stovell and Curtis Jackson, while St George's opener Mishael Paynter, and Jeffrey Tyrell from Social Club also make the team.

And while Bay coach Irving Romaine said his team selection was an easy choice, he questioned the wisdom behind the First Division side's decision to again leave out half their league team.

"It was a very easy choice," said Romaine. 'We stood together as a unit and as a unit we go and play county cup. County Cup brings in different things, and it's new for them (Cleveland) being the cup holders, so obviously they don't want to lose the cup. Hopefully it doesn't create problems with their league programme."

The past three weeks have not been easy for anyone at Bailey's Bay, but Romaine said the club were ready to put those events behind them, and he hoped the fans would get behind the side today.

"Everything has been worked out, and now it's about getting back to cricket. We're pretty positive and upbeat, you always look forward to playing county, everybody is excited about playing.

"We're hoping to play some good cricket, put the hard weeks behind us, and if we perform, we have a capable team to win the trophy. I think there were a lot of people supporting us, and a lot of people supporting the club as well.

"I think now we have sorted it out, everybody's back supporting Bailey's Bay as a community as we try and win."

Bailey's Bay: Terryn Fray, Irving Romaine, Calvin Dill, Wendell White, Corey Hill, Dennis Pilgrim, Marvin Trott, Dennico Hollis, Jameiko Marshall, Burton Outerbridge, Jim West.

Cleveland: Dennis Musson Jr., Shaki Darrell, Damali Bell, Dion Stovell, Jason Simons, Aaron Adams, Misheal Paynter, Makai Young, Lavar Talbot, Jeffrey Tyrell, Curtis Jackson.

n Bailey's Bay skipper Stephen Outerbridge has denied threatening a club official. Outerbridge was seen waving a cane during Wednesday's meeting at Bailey's Bay in which his suspension was lifted.

Outerbridge says he was actually waving at the trophy cabinet, and not at committee member Chris Smith.
