Towlson is too hot for Fire Service to handle
Commercial Division `A' league leaders Robin Hood returned to winning ways on Saturday, finding Fire Service just the tonic for their revitalisation after dropping their first points of the season to Lobster Pot a week previous.
Hood triumphed 5-2, battering their opponents into early submission with a three-goal, first-half outburst, to lead 3-1 at the interval. The defending champs tallied two more after the break, as Fire Service could find no answer.
Paul Towlson netted twice for the victors, with single scores from Colin McQueen, Alan Mooney and a Danon McGowan own goal. Theron Smith and Ralph Scott notched more conventional replies for the losers.
At BAA Field, Wanderers stifled the charge of second placed MR Onions, clawing back from a two-goal deficit to share the spoils.
Martin Ford found the range twice in the first half to put Onions two up at half-time, but the home side's Darren Hope returned the favour with a double of his own in the second half.
Meanwhile, Lobster Pot stayed in striking distance of the leaders following a 5-1 thrashing of Devonshire Colts All-Stars, as Jim McLaren netted a hat-trick, while Stephen Rooney and Saleem Mukudem scored once each. Jeffrey Robinson notched a consolation reply for All-Stars.
At Bernard Park, former top-flight performers Kenny Thompson and Ross Lambe struck twice for North Village Rams, enabling them to hold off a late charging Vasco Mariners.
Rams looked to be cruising to victory at 4-1, late in the second half, but Mariners stormed the gate late with Joe Barosso netting twice five minutes apart to draw the visitors within a single goal -- Malik Blyden had earlier scored for Mariners. However, the home side were able to fend off the challenge to emerge on top.
In `B' Division action, high-flying Key West Rangers kept up the pace at the head of the pack, routing cross-town rivals Devonshire Lions 9-2 at St. John's Field, as four players scored twice for Key West.
Wayne Augustus, Ricky Mallory, Sergio Griffin and Earl Richardson all performed the feat, while Sinclair Boyles rounded out matters with a single strike.
Jamiel Roberts and Christopher Pitcher scored for Lions.
A similar scenario unfurled at Malabar Field, where Wolves Pack proved inhospitable guests to Prison Officers.
The Devonshire side blasted the Officers 9-2, with Germaine Burt (two), Casey Burgess (two), Kevin Goater, Jason Fiajo and Keith DeShields all scoring, while D.Richards complimented with an own goal. Millard Rawlins scored twice for the hosts.
Also out west, Dockyard Falcons edged Bermuda Pest Control 5-4, with Anthony Burchall (two), Terrance Corday, Lee Correia and Johnny Pereira scoring.
Pest's T.Crockwell saw his hat-trick go in vain, as did K.Francis see his single tally.
At the opposite end of the Island, Valley International squeezed out a 3-2 triumph over St. George's All-Stars, with Roger Hall twice finding the range and Kevin McNeil complimenting with a single strike.
The remaining match saw Somerset Extros and Exiles battle to a scintillating 5-5 draw.
