Companies invited to hospital construction meeting

How the new King Edward VII Memorial Hospital will look when it is completed.

Local companies that want to get involved in the redevelopment of King Edward VII Memorial Hospital are being invited to a meeting held by Government and contractors BCM McAlpine. When redevelopment is completed, the new building will include 90 single-occupancy en suite patient rooms; Bermuda’s first dedicated day surgery unit; ambulatory care services like oncology, dialysis, asthma and diabetes; diagnostic imaging services; a new emergency room and a new utility plant. Construction is expected to take three years. The meeting on February 28, at 10am at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess, is designed to inform potential subcontractors and suppliers of how to register an interest in securing work on the project, how the selection process will be carried out, and to answer any questions which interested parties may have.Economy Minister Kim Wilson said: “The redevelopment of the hospital is a project that is of national interest and importance. The building of the facility will provide much needed jobs in the lagging construction industry.“This is an excellent opportunity for you to come out and register your interest. Our goal is to ensure that as many Bermudian companies as possible become involved with this project. Industry partners should attend the meeting and must express an interest if they are to be considered.”BCM McAlpine president, Alan Burland, said: “We have received an unprecedented level of interest in the project and this meeting will allow those companies to understand the process that we will use to select our subcontractors and suppliers. We encourage as much of the local industry to attend the meeting as possible.”
