Student fined for changing passport

Crown counsel Ms Nita Grewal told the court that Smith was stopped by Customs officials on April 10 after Police were informed that she would try to leave the country with an altered passport.

Police found that the word March in the passport had been changed to May and barbecue sauce had been put over the area.

Duty counsel Ms Elizabeth Christopher said Smith's passport had expired and she needed to leave the Island. "It was important for her to get away,'' she said. "She regrets what she did. She said it was a total act of ignorance on her part.'' Smith also told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis that she was under " a lot of stress''. The concert, set to start at 6 p.m., will be held in Victoria Park.

The concert series, which is in its third year, has featured many different types of local and overseas entertainment.

And a bank spokesman said the "Rock `n' Roll & Lots of Soul'' concert had traditionally been the most popular in the series, with the artists performing the hits of rock and soul of the past 40 years.

The concert is expected to last for three hours and will feature local bands Shaky Ground, Last Rites, Fantasy Bermuda, Boxer Chock`lits, Time Tunnel, Terra Firma, Naked Bridges and Spice.

Organisers are expecting more than 3,000 people to attend the concert which will include free balloons and face painting for children.

GATES TO PEN EARLY FOR GAME SOC Gates to open early for game Gates will open at 7 p.m. at National Stadium tomorrow for the football match between Bermuda and Costa Rica.

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Recreation and the Bermuda Football Association said they were opening the gates 90 minutes before the game was scheduled to begin to accommodate the large crowd expected to turn up to support the local team.

DRUGS CONCEALED IN UNDERWEAR CTS Drugs concealed in underwear Forty-year-old American visitor Jeffrey Foster, who was found with cannabis in his underwear, was this week fined $300.

Crown counsel Ms Nita Grewal said a plastic bag of cannabis was found in the crotch of Foster's underwear when he arrived at the airport on July 23. She said he told Police he brought in the drugs to smoke on his vacation.

Before sentencing, duty counsel Ms Elizabeth Christopher told Senior Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis that Foster had already suffered because his girlfriend was unaware he smoked cannabis until he was arrested on July 23.

MAN ADMITS CARRYING MACHETE CTS Man admits carrying machete A 22-year-old Pembroke man was this week granted bail in the sum of $500 after he admitted damaging a livery cycle and carrying a machete.

Laurie Burrows, of Glebe Road, pleaded guilty to the charges. But he denied a further charge of using threatening behaviour.
