Man fined for drugs

Purchasing cannabis in the open air proved costly for a 35-year-old homeless man, who was fined $300 in Magistrates’ Court for having less than one gram of the drug.Michael Clemens was caught by police on June 17, when an unmarked patrol car spotted the transaction at 10pm along Camp Hill Road, Southampton.Stopped and searched by officers, Clemens was found with plantlike material wrapped in paper in his pocket. It was later found to be 0.76 grams of cannabis.“It’s mine and I’m going to smoke it,” Clemens told police.Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo gave him until December 13 to pay.
