Port Royal's Ronald Cowen and St. George's Preparatory's Elisha Miller both turned in superlative performances yesterday during the Primary Schools
winners, claimimg three golds apiece.
Competing in the Over 11 age bracket, Cowen blew away fields in the 25 metres butterfly, breaststroke and freestyle while Miller did likewise in the Under 11 group, counting first-place finishes in the butterfly, backstroke and individual medley -- an open event -- and also tallied a second place in the breaststroke.
There were six two-time winners including Bermuda High School's Laura Dickenson and Sara Taylor, Graham Smith from Saltus, and Candace Marson, Jeffrey Steynor and Jessie Marshall of Port Royal.
Taylor, Marshall and Marson each doubled up in the backstroke and freestyle, Steynor combined the butterfly and freestyle, Smith was tops in the backstroke and breaststroke and Dickenson excelled in the breaststroke and freestyle as her prizes.
The Secondary Schools Swim Meet takes place next Tuesday at the BASA pool followed by the Primary Schools Swim Relays on Thursday.
Thursday also sees the Secondary Schools Six-A-Side Soccer tournament being held.
There will be a novice swimming competition for children under 12 years of age at the BASA pool on Saturday, October 10. This event is for those who have not competed in any of the Bermuda Amateur Swimming Association Championships or the Harbour Open.
CRICKET CRI The Shell/Mid-Ocean News Cricketer of the Year will be announced next Friday (October 9) at a prizegiving ceremony at the Elbow Beach Hotel.
All cricketers are welcome to attend the event, which gets under way at 7 p.m.
