Smith: Wells has improved tremendously
Crawley Town striker Jonte Smith says fellow Bermudian Nahki Wells has improved tremendously since his arrival in the UK nearly three years ago.Following a disappointing brief stint with Carlisle United Wells’ career has taken flight at League Two Bradford City where he is the club’s leading goal scorer with 18 goals in all competitions so far this term. The former Dandy Town man bagged 12 goals on his debut season with the Bantams during the previous campaign. He has also been an integral part of an amazing run in the Capital One Cup that has seen his team reach the final, scoring three goals along the way including one against Aston Villa in the two-legged semi-final the Bantams won 4-3 on aggregate.“I’ve watched all their games leading up to the final and he’s been outstanding in the all of the games and performed really well,” said Smith, who was an unused sub in Crawley’s 1-0 win against Leyton Orient earlier today. “He’s impressed me from what I used to see in Bermuda to now what I see in England and I’m very happy for him and proud.“I see how well he’s doing and obviously he has been attracting interest from higher clubs as well so if you perform well you never know what you can do.”Smith said the Bantams’ amazing run in the Capital One Cup has inspired many, including himself.“It’s made a lot of people realise that it doesn’t matter what league you’re in,” he added. “If you play your best on the day no matter who you play anything can happen.”Bradford’s reward for reaching the final is a showdown with Welsh side Swansea at Wembley Stadium tomorrow.En route to the final Wells and his Bantams teammates also toppled Premier sides Wigan Athletic and Arsenal via penalty shoot-outs.Smith, 18, says he has big expectations for Wells and Bradford at Wembley. When asked to give his prediction on the outcome of the cup final, the Red Devils’ striker replied: “2-1 Bradford, Nahki to score two goals.”
