In addition to the usual qualifications expected for such a post, the ad states that preference will be given to applicants with training in adolescent counselling.

But when The Royal Gazette contacted Addiction Services to find out if they treated adolescents, Chief Medical Officer John Cann initially said the request for a person trained to counsel adolescents was a "mistake''. When questioned further, Dr. Cann said the reason why the ad requested those skills was because there were a number of young people in Bermuda who were experimenting with drugs. He said: "There aren't enough people in Bermuda with the types of skills needed to treat adolescents.'' But he emphasised that Addiction Services was not attempting to provide treatment for adolescents.

And he denied that Addiction Services actually treated adolescents.
