Brazilian on BFA coaching shortlist

applicants for the newly created Director of Coaching position.

Joao Castral visited the Island this past weekend and was interviewed by the coaching and development committee as part of the search for a qualified individual to implement various coaching programmes at the junior and senior levels.

BFA president Charlie Marshall confirmed that Castral was on what is believed to be a five member list, but that a final decision on the appointment had not yet been made.

"That's (interview) all part and parcel of our search for someone to fill the position of Director of Coaching,'' said Marshall, who was recently returned unopposed during the BFA annual general meeting. "All the persons (on the list) are highly qualified individuals.

"What we want is a person who can put programmes together in the schools ...

from primary to secondary level as well as assisting with the clubs and at the national level.'' On Castral's resume are stints in Saudi Arabia, Egypt and homeland South America.

Former president Gerard Bean heads the aforementioned coaching and development committee, however he was reluctant to disseminate any information regarding the remaining candidates for the $50,000 a year post.

His committee is set to present its recommendations to the BFA executive during a special meeting tonight and a press conference has been scheduled for tomorrow, where it is believed a final announcement will be made.

After no Bermudian applied for the job when advertised locally, an ad was placed in the popular The FIFA News , triggering widespread response.

"All parts of the world were touched,'' said Bean, noting countries such as England, France, Yugoslavia, Germany and South America.
