The selection of 20th century art from the Azores was viewed by the BNG as its contribution to the celebration of 150 years of Portuguese settlement in Bermuda.

The show has attracted close to 2,500 local school children through the gallery's doors and hundreds of children have also participated in the end-of-show Education Ministry exhibition, A Window On Bermuda.

BNG director Laura Gorham said: "Visitorship has surpassed the previous record of 9,800 during the Secrecy exhibit and has served as a voyage of discovery in bringing together a cross section of our island community in a celebration of cultural diversity.

"Through A Window On The Azores, we met new volunteers, new sponsors from across the community, new members and new friends. Our lunchtime and evening programmes and reminiscing sessions gave new information and insights for those without Acorean connections and brought Acorean pride in that Island's art and history to the fore.'' A Window On The Azores closes this Saturday, February 19 at 4 p.m. Anyone wishing to see the internationally acclaimed show can visit the Bermuda National Gallery, in the City Hall building, today through Saturday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. daily.
