Bean’s strike proves pivotal for BAA
BAA 1 Somerset Trojans 0
Keishen Bean’s 80th-minute penalty was enough to earn BAA victory over Somerset Trojans at Goose Gosling Field yesterday.
Although it was not the most memorable performance, the veteran striker was pleased with the result, which all but guarantees their safety in the top flight.
“I felt like we were lacking in many areas but ultimately found the winner,” he said. “The result moves us safely away from the relegation zone, and now the objective is to finish as high up the table as possible.”
Somerset controlled most of the first half but were left to rue a host of squandered chances.
Damon Swan came the closest just before half-time, but was unfortunate to see his well-struck effort ricochet off the underside of the crossbar before being cleared.
Goalkeeper Morricko Iris, was called into action diving to his left to save Justin Corday’s effort from the resulting free kick.
Somerset then had an effort cleared off the line, ensuring that the score remained level.
The critical moment would then come in the 80th minute, when Troy Tucker was brought down by goalkeeper Bean inside the box. Keishen Bean stepped up and calmly slotted the ball into the bottom corner, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way.
BAA’s Victor Capitillo was sent off after receiving his second yellow card, but there was very little time for Somerset to make use of the numerical advantage.
