Kyme too good for top US player
best Americans.
A year after shocking the US squash establishment by beating their number one under-19 player Eric Pearson at the World Junior Championships on their home courts, 18-year-old Kyme recently dished out similar punishment to the current top USA player at the North American Team Championships in Toronto, Canada.
Richard Repetto, ranked number one in the US, had ousted Kyme from the US Junior Open last December. But this time he came out on the losing end as the Bermudian scored a thrilling 8-10, 9-5, 4-9, 9-6, 9-7 victory.
A student at Trinity College in Connecticut, Kyme has spent the last two months excelling on the track, repeating last year's fifth place finish in the New England Prep School meet with an impressive time of 51.4 seconds in the 400 metres. He was also part of his school's relay team that placed third in the 4x400 metres and fourth in the 4x100 metres.
Kyme returned to serious squash training just two weeks ago in preparation for the World Junior Championships and the Junior Caribbean Championships in Trinidad and Tobago from July 17-26.
Last week he led a combined Caribbean team against the best of the US and Canada and next month those team-mates will be the opposition when Bermuda defend their title as Caribbean champions.
