A woman was fine $2,500 after she told Magistrates’ Court that she broke the Covid-19 curfew to pick up her daughter.

Jahlae Raynor, 25, pleaded guilty yesterday to a breach of the earlier midnight to 5am lockdown.

The court heard that police stopped Raynor on North Shore Road in Pembroke around 1.52am – almost two hours after curfew started – on February 6.

She told officers when questioned: “I had to collect my daughter from her father.”

Raynor, from Devonshire, explained that she had been at work that afternoon and arranged for the three-year-old girl to be looked after by the child’s father.

But she said that “things went south on his end” and she had to collect the child at the last minute.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson reduced the standard $3,000 fine to $2,500 and ordered Raynor to pay by July 13.
