BGA forced to call off Foursomes
Bermuda Golf Association's annual Mixed Foursomes Championships has become the latest sporting victim of Hurricane Fabian.
With host course Port Royal having suffered as many as 300 felled trees and with debris littering the course, the weekend tournament has been postponed indefinitely.
BGA tournament secretary Gayle Kozol said yesterday she had no idea when Port Royal would be reopened and therefore was unable to set a new date for the 36-hole strokeplay event.
Youngsters Jarryd Dillas and Ebonie Burgess are the defending champions of the tournament which sees players compete over 18 holes of better ball on the Saturday followed by 18 holes of Pinehurst on Sunday.
"Port Royal has been devastated by the storm," said Kozol. "I took a look around today and couldn't believe the damage. It would be impossible for the course to be ready for this weekend.
"Nick Mansell (course superintendent) thinks it could be two weeks before it reopens.
"We'll just have to postpone the tournament indefinitely."
