PHC beat in-form X-Roads

On target: PHC scorer Idrees Sharrieff

The visiting side started the game on the front foot and scored from a corner within two minutes of the start of play.

X-Roads failed to clear the initial cross allowing Na’eem Griffith to retrieve the loose ball and make a square pass for Sharrieff to tap home from five yards.

Cecoy Robinson then had a chance in the tenth minute to double the lead when he was played through by Bean.

However, X-Roads goalkeeper Jez Burrows, was alert and off his line quickly to cut the angle and block Robinson’s shot from just inside the box.

PHC were in control at this point, but were fighting a strong head wind, and at times struggled to move the ball forward from the back.

X-Roads took advantage by pressing high up the pitch and were able to create a couple of chances, the best of which came when Jamel Swan dispossessed the PHC defender on the edge of the box.

However, goalkeeper Quinaceo Hunt was off his line and down sharply to smother the ball before Swan could get his shot off.

Robinson would then have one more good look at goal just before the half, but pulled his shot from 12 yards just wide of the post.

X-Roads’ best chance came immediately following half-time. Kimori Brangman found space inside the box and forced a save from Hunt with his angled shot from the left.

Swan was first to the rebound and his attempt from 12 yards was cleared off the line by Griffith.

PHC’s foothold in the game grew stronger as the match went on and with the wind now in their favour, were moving the ball more fluidly and creating chances. The pressure would eventually pay off in the 71st minute when Bean finished off a neat passing move that ended with the ball at his feet just inside the box. The young forward made no mistake, driving hard and low to double the lead and effectively put the game out of reach.

To make matters worse, the home team would play the last ten minutes of the game without their head coach, Farid El Karfa, after he was dismissed by referee Anthony Francis for dissent.

The loss ends an impressive four-game winning streak that has helped propel the Premier Division newcomers to a comfortable mid-table position.
