Passenger admits $3m cocaine possession
A UK resident who imported almost $3 million worth of cocaine pleaded guilty to drug possession with an intent to supply in Supreme Court yesterday.
Dana Marie Francis, of Tottenham, London pleaded guilty to possessing 11,638 grams or almost 25 pounds of cocaine when she arrived on the Island last April. She pleaded not guilty to drug importation.
Francis, 26, travelled to Bermuda on a cruise ship with fellow Briton Errol Keith Fenty, who is now serving a 14 year jail sentence after pleading guilty to the offence last year.
The pair arrived in St. George's on April 23, 2003 onboard the cruise ship Horizon.
At his trial in October Fenty, a 48-year-old father of two, said he was recruited in England to import the drugs into Bermuda and then took on Francis as an accomplice,
The pair flew from London to New York and then on to Miami where they boarded the Horizon on April 13.
But Bermuda Customs and Police were alerted by cruise workers who became suspicious at the fact that Fenty's travelling companion was so much younger than him.
When the Horizon arrived, a team searched the couple's empty cabin where a sniffer dog drew attention to a green suitcase. Twenty four packages of cocaine were found in the case.
Francis will re-appear for sentencing tomorrow.
