The North Village Rams managed to do more than light up the scoreboard by scoring 17 goals in October they raised $1,700 for the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre (BCHC).Freisenbruch-Meyer Group (FMG) donated $100 to the charity for every goal scored by the Rams as part of the North Village Community Club’s (NVCC) Kicks for Cancer fundraiser.The team, who have for the last two years worn pink jerseys in October to show support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and have raised funds through T-shirt sales and donations from members and bystanders.With the addition of the contribution by FMG, the 2011 Kicks for Cancer campaign raised just over $2,400.BCHC education officer Rhonda Smith-Simmons said the funds have been earmarked towards payment of new ultrasound equipment.“Ultrasound is an important diagnostic tool for detecting disease in many body areas, including breast, prostate, abdomen and thyroid,” she explained.FMG president Michael Freisenbruch said: “We have a great relationship with NVCC and once we heard about the Kicks for Cancer campaign, I immediately thought it would be a wonderful opportunity to support BCHC.“We are all tightening our purse strings, but it’s essential to create more innovative ways to support our charities, like Kicks for Cancer, and ensure their stability during this recession.”NVCC president Sherwin Dill said the donation was a win-win.“As a community club, we are very proud of this opportunity every year to wear pink and raise funds for this worthy cause,” he said. “With FMG coming on board, it has become a motivational factor for the coaches, players and fans to do that little bit extra in our efforts to support Kicks for Cancer.”
