Kids cash in on cutting grass
Somerset cousins Michael Keesee Jr., 12, and Zykomo Simmons, 11, built their own lawn mowing business over the summer vacation.
And after pumping the money they earned over the summer back into the business by buying new lawn care equipment, Michael said: "We're still looking for more business.'' Michael's mother Linda said: "It's hard to say how the boys came up with the idea.
"Michael was given a computer as a graduation present and showed up one day with the flyer he had designed.'' Michael said he and Zykomo came up with the idea just before their summer vacation began after they saw people mowing their lawns and getting ''hot and sweaty''.
Mrs. Keesee said: "They started doing family members' yards and then the phone started ringing, and now, besides the family, they have five clients.'' Michael said his father gave him an old lawnmower he had received from his brother and the business was under way. His dad later gave him a second lawn mower he had gotten his hands on and the boys purchased some extra equipment themselves.
Just before the end of summer, business began to roll in so they decided to keep going and now mow lawns after they finish their homework.
Michael -- who attends Sandys Secondary School while Zykomo is at West End Primary -- said: "Whenever someone calls us we'll either get to them that same day or the next.''
