Advertising accusations are wrong, says Airport
A taxi driver's complaints about advertising in the arrivals hall of the Bermuda International Airport are incorrect, according to an airport official.
A taxi driver claimed on VSB television that a poster advertising Wheels Cycles at the Airport had been placed in a restricted area.
He said the situation was unfair because airport ground transportation services are not allowed to advertise at the airport.
However The Royal Gazette was told that the Transport Control Department maintains a "complex" set of rules to regulate the ground transportation area outside the arrivals hall.
Head of Airport Operations Lester Nelson said advertising within the terminals was for sale to any business.
Last month, Mr. Nelson said he hired advertising firm, Aardvark to sell and organise advertisements in the terminals in order to raise revenue.
"People do not realise that we are running more than a Government agency," he said.
Mr. Nelson said running an airport is like running two businesses; a terminal and aerospace - and both incur high expenses.
In addition to the Wheels ad, Oleander Cycles said it recently purchased wall space at the airport also.
