Hope as striking drivers call for mediation

The Bermuda Taxi Operators Association is now calling for a third party to mediate their dispute with Government over the proposed digital dispatching system.

?We are currently in talks with our legal advisor as to what we can do about a third party intervention to see whether we can arrive at a resolution to this problem,? BTOA president Lee Tucker said. ?We would also look to Government to postpone the debate of the legislation while we try to arrive at some type of resolution.?

?What we?ve asked for is clarification from the Premier on the free installation that has been proposed. We would want this in writing as to what is being proposed. There is a certain amount of mistrust of Government and this is why we reluctantly agreed to have a third party intervene.?

He said many drivers were concerned that there may be hidden extra charges even if the system was installed for free. ?If it?s for a tracking system, it should be installed at the TCD offices, but all these things would be discussed in detail with a third party.?
