SLAN to try and raise awareness
with the launch of Sierra Leone Solidarity Week.
It is up to ordinary people to ensure the crisis does not fall from the world's radar screen, the Sierra Leone Action Network (SLAN) said.
Monday marks the tenth anniversary of the start of the West African nation's civil war.
The week is intended to heighten awareness and...recognise the courage and suffering of the people of Sierra Leone.
Activities are planned for local schools and Island churches and mosques are being asked to hold prayer vigils or special services.
SLAN members are also looking for assistance in developing a web site in order to co-ordinate global action. "People with skills such as graphic design, public speaking, administration, writing (and) research are particularly welcome, as well as people willing to do `leg work','' said SLAN.
Interested persons are encouraged to contact SLAN at 291-5406 or by e-mail at slactionbda y hotmail.com.
