Ambassador to speak at Hawksmere conference
US Ambassador L. Paul Bremer will be among the presenters at Hawksmere's 19th International Reinsurance Congress which will also focus on the long-term effects of New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's investigations into global insurance practices.
The Congress, scheduled to take place from October 19-21 in Bermuda, will see Ambassador Bremer, former Presidential Envoy to Iraq, present the first keynote address on the threat of new terrorism. As a former leader of administration in Iraq, he is known world-wide for his expertise in the field of terrorism, its effects on global industry, and the crisis management involved.
The first day of the conference will focus on the impact of regulatory scrutiny of the insurance industry. Sessions will look at the impact on brokers and commission structures. There will also be debate on the future for finite and financial reinsurance deals.
Mergers and trends and managing the cycle downturn and effective capital management will also come under scrutiny during the Congress. Sessions will also review significant recent court decisions and legislative developments and examine lessons learned from World Trade Center litigation. The impact of tort reform including class action limitations and other initiatives will also come under the microscope as will the future of long tail liabilities and developments in the US commutations and run-off market.
