general manager at the end of the month it was announced last week.

He is the second general manager to leave the company in four years. His predecessor Mr. Danny Mannus stepped down in March 1991.

But so far, no successor has been tipped to take Mr. Pacheco's place. Telco board chairman Dr. James King has been nominated acting general manager from July 28 -- Mr. Pacheco's scheduled departure date.

The soon-to-be former GM yesterday indicated his decision to retire was family-related.

During his 42-year career with Telco, he had devoted his efforts to the company at the price of great personal sacrifice for his family. Now he wanted to spend more time with them.

"I now feel that I should take the opportunity in my retirement to devote my energies to them,'' Mr. Pacheco said. "It is an appropriate time for me to retire.''
