Franklin reaches final four
Bermuda’s Micah Franklin has advanced to the semi-finals of the Senior Caribbean Squash Championships after a convincing victory over Barbados’ Gavin Cumberbatch.Franklin, who trains full-time at the National Squash Academy in Toronto, defeated Cumberbatch 11-2, 11-4, 11-3 in Trinidad and Tobago on Monday.Andrew Mount, Bermuda’s coach, said Franklin looked every bit a former Caribbean Junior Champion with the manner he controlled the quarter-final match.“(Micah) was confident in his attacking shots. He got on the ball early and controlled the match. It was impressive,” he said.Franklin, who is ranked 240th in the world, faces Cameron Stafford of Cayman Islands in the semi-finals.Stafford, a full-time professional with a world ranking of 196, beat Caribbean legend Richard Chin of Guyana in their quarter-final.When asked about his chances of reaching the final, Franklin, 19, said: “I’m feeling really good right now. My training is paying off.”
