Fine for swearing at police

A 43-year-old who swore at police officers has been fined $1,000.Elliot Warren pleaded guilty to using offensive words near Pompano Beach Club on June 17. Crown counsel Cindy Clarke told Magistrates’ Court that police responded to a report of an altercation in the area around 6.50pm that day. They found Warren standing near a Burrows Lightbourne truck shouting loudly. The officers noticed his eyes appeared glazed and warned him that it is an offence to drive while under the influence of alcohol. Warren shouted: “What the f***? You foreigners can’t stop me.”Warren told Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner that the officers turned their attention to him because they couldn’t arrest anyone else.“Another person was fighting with someone else, and no one wanted to press charges,” he said. “Being that they couldn’t charge the two for it, they turned their attention to me.“I was a little loud because of the simple fact that I knew if I didn’t get my truck [to] town I was going to get dismissed and that’s what happened. And I wasn’t drinking. When I was tested, I was passed.”Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner ordered Warren to pay the fine immediately.
