Talented Quinn to hold fundraiser
A young singer who wants to study to study musical theatre is to perform tonight to help to fund her ambitions.
Quinn Outerbridge, 18, said she wanted to raise cash to sign up with the multinational educational and entertainment organisation Up With People.
Ms Outerbridge said: “From my first acting role where I played the lamb in Mary Had a Little Lamb in nursery school, I knew that I wanted to be a performer.
“I see the Up With People opportunity as an important step to broadening my understanding of world cultures and the performance industry while experiencing what it is like to tour with a dynamic group of young people from across the globe.”
Ms Outerbridge, a former pupil at the Berkeley Institute, said she needed $17,000 to join the travelling UWP for a semester.
The concert, to be held at Hamilton’s Pier 6 from 7.30pm, was organised with help from arts group the Chewstick Foundation and will also feature Chiante Roberts and Ayana Ming-Bean, graduates of the Up With People programme.
Deidra Lee Bean, the acting executive director of Chewstick, said: “Quinn is a talented, driven and ambitious young singer. Her beautiful voice has earned her the acceptance into Up With People.
“She will be featured at Pier 6 in an effort to fundraise for a tremendous opportunity for global travel, artistic growth, networking and community service.
“Despite the steep price, Quinn is committed to embarking on this life changing opportunity with this fundraising performance as well as online crowd funding, various performances, and seeking sponsorships from local businesses.”
Other performers at the concert will include island artists Joy T. Barnum, Haz, Jahroy Richards, Bermuda Donquili African Dance and Raven Baksh, as well as a dance choreographed by Janaesha West.
