Shares of Butterfield Bank fell $2.75, or 10.2 per cent, to $24.25 after 8,300 changed hands on The Royal Gazette/BSX Index.

In New York, the bank’s shares were down 15 cents, or 0.61 per cent, at $24.28.

Meanwhile, the bank informed the Bermuda Stock Exchange that it purchased for Treasury 262,500 of its shares last month, at an average price of $22.02 per share.

The Royal Gazette/BSX Index fell 123.68 points, or 6.49 per cent, to 1,783.01, while the BSX Insurance Index was down 14.36 points, or 1.06 per cent, at 1,310.36.
