Questions about tenders
October 9, 2012Dear Sir,Just wondering...With having a cruise ship anchored in Harmon’s Bay underneath the Scaur like we saw on the September 12, 2012, the questions I would ask are these people who drive these lifeboats from the cruise ship covered by insurance, to operate in a strange environment, are they certified, are they familiar with Bermuda’s regulations of what is required of them, as our Bermuda pilots have to have?Would the foreign cruise ship lifeboat pilots be insured if anything were to go wrong in our waters? Are these lifeboat pilots able to perform a “breakdown” if one should occur, do these lifeboats have anchors, and chain and rope to be able to anchor should there be a need for them? What type of licence do these lifeboat pilots have?Let’s use our own (local) cruiseboats to assist with ferrying cruise ship passengers to and fro from cruise ship to Hamilton, we have enough private cruise boats to do these transfers. It appears that there is no “forward thinking” by our Government in reference to movements of passengers from cruiseships that have to go to anchor if there’s no berthing facilities available.PETER BROMBY SRPaget
