Warren saves Blazers' blushed
Five yellow cards were issued in this Coca Cola First Division clash by referee, Rex Osborne for unsportsmanly conduct and kicking the ball away.
In spite of this fact, it did not seem to dampen the spirits of either team in what was otherwise an emotionally charged and action-packed game at St.
David's.
During the first twenty-five minutes of play, Boulevard seemed poised to run away with full share of the points as they were able to move the ball at will on the east enders. But for poor finishing, Boulevard could well have been ahead by two goals at intermission.
In the 15th minute Kenny Hill had his effort smothered at the line by the keeper Sidney Minors after receiving a nice flick-on by Carlos Pearman. Five minutes later, Dwight Warren beat two defenders down the flank and crossed over to Clinton Caisey who was perched 10 yards out. Caisey controlled the ball and fired high and wide wasting a golden opportunity to open Boulevard's scoring account.
St. David's were bending but not breaking. They would be rewarded for their perseverance when veteran, James Pace, put them ahead with a header off the post after receiving a free-kick from Shea Pitcher in the 36th minute. St.
David's then began to assert themselves and for brief moments were able to pin down their more fancied opponents with telling runs off the ball.
Boulevard would again come dangerously close in the 41st minute when Neil Robinson blasted wide after receiving a through ball from Hill. Two minutes later, Herbie Bascome watched agonizingly as his effort went high and wide.
Boulevard would capitalize on their relentless pressure five minutes into the second half when Dean Boyles controlled the ball deep on the flanks.
Boyles sent in a high searching cross that somehow managed to elude everyone in the goal-mouth and find its way in the back of the net touching off a joyous celebration.
In the 70th minute, Lionel Cann would take some of the blaze out of the Blazers when he chased down a ball from deep on the wing. His routine cross from near the sidelines destined its way for goal. Boulevard keeper, Lynn Tucker managed to cradled the ball in his arms. However, the momentum of a rapidly advancing James Pace knocked the keeper and the ball over the line thereby, contributing to the St. David's second score.
Realizing the urgency of their need to score, Boulevard picked up the pace on their attack even more fiercely. Their frequent forays into the St. David's back-field served notice that they would soon knot the score at two apiece.
It was no surprise when Dwight Warren equalized for the Blazers four minutes from regulation time. Warren beautifully pulled the ball down from his chest to his feet after receiving a pass over the middle and outpaced two defenders on his way to goal. He unleashed a powerful shot from some twenty yards out that found its way just inside the left upright.
Warren was unlucky not to score a minute later when he turned sharply on the ball and got off a shot which Minors just just managed to tip over the bar and, therefore, insure that St.David's would end the game with a share of the points.
The draw ruined Boulevard's chances of closing the gap on top two North Village and Dandy Town who were both held to draws yesterday.
