Art society expects to run normally, despite cutback
The Bermuda Society of Arts will continue to run normally, despite not receiving a Government grant.Gallery Director Julie Hastings-Smith said the $30,000 grant, which was cut from the 2011/12 Budget, was intended to fund a education project, not to help the day-to-day running of the Society. The grant was one of several that were either reduced in size or cut completely. Other charities and groups hit by the grant cuts included the Bermuda National Trust, the Sunshine League, the Menuhin Foundation and the Bermuda Heritage Museum.Ms Hastings-Smith said yesterday: “We understand that Government had to make some hard decisions in difficult economic times and for us at the Bermuda Society of Art, it means that we will have to continue to be creative in finding ways to raise funds for special projects.“That is entirely consistent with our recent efforts to solicit sponsorship for our four annual member’s shows.”lUseful websites: www.bsoa.bm, www.gov.bm.
