No end in sight in wall repair row

At a standstill: There is no sign of a resolution to the dispute over a collapsed wall at a Perimeter Lane residence (Photo by Glenn Tucker)

Work to restore two-lane traffic on Marsh Folly Road and Palmetto Road remains at a standstill months after the collapse of a rock face on a nearby property.Government has failed to give an update on the repairs despite repeated requests from this newspaper. However, The Royal Gazette understands talks regarding property rights between Government and a private property owner have continued to hold up repair work.In March, the Ministry of Public Works warned that one lane of the road would be closed for a “significant period of time” due to a rock cut that collapsed on a Perimeter Lane property. At that time the Ministry said the stabilisation of the rock cut is the responsibility of the owners of the Perimeter Lane property. The land owner however said he believed the Government should contribute to the work, and the financial responsibility for building a wall has been a matter of contention for several years.A source with knowledge of the issue said recently: “Communications are still ongoing regarding property rights, and consequently until the matter is resolved the job remains at a standstill.”Since June, this newspaper has repeatedly reached out to Ministry spokesmen for updates as to when work might be completed, but no updates have been given.
