Cabrera bags $800,000 and flies in

Angel Cabrera: Runner-up.

Angel Cabrera warmed up for this week's PGA Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda by reaching the final of the World Match Play Championships at Wentworth, England, yesterday.

The Argentinian lost six and four to South African Ernie Els, who received the richest first prize in golf, a whopping $2.04 million, while Cabrera picked up a consolation prize of $800,000.

Cabrera was due to arrive in Bermuda last night by private jet for today's Pro-Am at the Mid Ocean Club, also featuring fellow major winners Padraig Harrington and Zach Johnson.

Jim Furyk, Tiger Woods' replacement, misses today's play and arrives on the Island tonight ahead of tomorrow's first round of the 36-hole tournament. Fondly known as "The Duck", Cabrera became the first Argentine player to win the US Open and the second to win a major, joining Roberto DeVicenzo, who won the British Open in 1967 at Royal Liverpool (Hoylake) last summer.
