Road closures over four months for Belco trenching in Southampton were announced this morning.

The one-lane closure extends from the Belco substation at the US Naval Annex Substation at George’s Bay Road at the junction with the Railway Trail, down George’s Bay Road to Middle Road and to the Evans Bay substation.

The closure, which will mainly affect the eastbound lane, is from Monday until October 1, with work scheduled for 7.30am to 6pm daily.

Another Belco trenching job in Warwick requires a road closure over the weekend.

The work, which has reached the Middle Road and Longford Road junction, will be under traffic control, with detours recommended via South Road and Harbour Road.

The trenching on Saturday and Sunday runs from 7.30am to 6pm.

Queries can be directed to Jonathan Pedro, the project manager for Belco, at 295-5111 ext 1441.

Earlier this year, the power company announced extensive trenching to replace ageing cable systems in the central and western parts of the island.

The Ministry of Public Works also declared a series of closures and no parking moves for Friday, to accommodate the marathon derby and junior classic run on the Bermuda Day holiday.
