A motorist suffered minor injuries following an accident near Watford bridge in Sandys last night.

According to police, the driver collided with a utility pole on Somerset Road at around 8,15pm.

The collision brought down power lines across the road and, according to eyewitnesses resulted in long tailbacks.

“The female driver apparently sustained relatively minor injuries and was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for medical assessment as a precaution,” a police spokesman said.

“Belco personnel also attended the scene to assess the situation and safely deal with the downed power lines. Traffic flow was temporarily stopped in the area as a result.”
