Police probe attack on cabbie
was alleged to have occurred at about 11 p.m. on Thursday.
The 65-year-old complainant said he picked up two young men near the Warwick Bowl area and took them to Jennings Road.
Once there, one of the men tried to choke him with a piece of wood, said the driver, but he was able to resist him and was struck in the mouth instead.
Meanwhile the other suspect exited the taxi, approached the driver's door and attempted to reach into his pockets.
The driver told Police he fell out of the taxi and the two men allegedly began to beat him in the face and head.
One of the suspects took an amount of cash from his pocket and they were able to escape on foot.
Police arrived on the scene to find the elderly man bleeding from the mouth with severe swelling to the side of his face and he was escorted to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment.
