Acting Magistrate the Wor. Edward Bailey sentenced Lamel Steede, of Swan's Bay Hill, to two months in prison for each offence. The sentences will run concurrently.

And Mr. Bailey fined Janhi Saltus, of School's Drive, Devonshire, and Laurel Steede, of Elliott Street, Pembroke, both 19, $1,000 each for assaulting two Police officers.

Twenty-one-year-old Kennisha Mallory of Poinciana Road, Devonshire, was also fined $1,000 for fighting in a public place and helping Lamel Steede try to escape.

The four youths were involved in the incident which took place outside the Spinning Wheel nightclub on Court Street on March 13 of this year.

Prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant told the court that two Police officers were patrolling Court Street in an unmarked Police car when they noticed a crowd had gathered outside of the nightclub and investigated.

Sgt. Grant said they found Mallory and Steede fighting and separated them.

The officers -- Det. Con. Peter Morgan and Det. Con. David Small -- were then attacked by Saltus and Laurel Steede as they tried to put Lamel Steede in the back of their car.

Mallory also tried to pull Lamel Steede out of the back seat while this was happening, said Sgt. Grant.

All four youths were arrested and taken to Hamilton Police Station.

Before sentencing the four, Mr. Bailey said: "The court cannot sit back and watch people attack Police officers.'' And he told Mallory, Saltus and Laurel Steede they were very fortunate they were not going to prison.
