Man, 70, subjected to brutal `road rage' attack
then kicked as he lay on the ground by the driver involved.
It is understood the Pembroke man lost a kidney after suffering heavy internal bleeding after the attack.
A Police spokesman said: "This appears to have been a particularly brutal attack on a senior citizen.'' The pensioner was placed in the intensive care unit after the attack two weeks ago and is still in hospital but has been moved to a general ward. He was riding out of Morton's New World Bakery on Glebe Road in Pembroke on November 13 at 1 p.m. when an east-bound car nearly struck him.
The victim fell from the cycle and was then approached by the driver who kicked him in the right side of the body before returning to his car and fleeing.
A family member then reported the attack several days later and an active investigation is now underway.
The Police spokesman said: "We are very interested in speaking to people at the scene who initially may have thought it was just a road accident. There was one gentleman who helped and we are anxious he gets in touch.
"Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have information on the assailant should contact Sgt. Jerome Laws of the Major Incident Room on 295 0011. Confidential calls can also be placed with Crimestoppers on 1 (800) 623 8477.
