Man appears in court, twice!

period for assaulting a Police officer, violently resisting arrest and for wilfully damaging spectacles.

Cannoth Roberts, of Elliot Street, was charged with assaulting P.c. Lyndon Raynor on January 4 at Hamilton Police Station.

The court heard that a conversation at the Police Station about a court date escalated into a violent confrontation after Roberts became verbally aggressive and violently resisted officers who tried to intervene.

Roberts struck out at P.c. Raynor, lashing him in the face, after he was handcuffed and escorted to the reception area. The assault resulted in $60 worth of damage to P.c. Raynor's spectacles.

After reading a social inquiry report on Roberts, Magistrate the Wor. Will Francis said: "You have not been given the benefit of probation before. Your probation officer can help you in many ways.'' Minutes later, Roberts appeared before Magistrate the Wor. Cheryl Ann Mapp for wilfully damaging a bus and launching a bottle at the bus on April 25, last year.

Mrs. Mapp heard that Roberts took revenge on a bus driver who threw him off a bus, near the Warwick Bowl on the Middle Road in Warwick. Roberts retaliated by throwing a bottle against the bus door, smashing it.

"You have been in and out of these doors too often for someone your age,'' Mrs. Mapp told Roberts. "I don't want to see you here again.'' She ordered him do 200 hours community service saying: "I'm sure that will keep you busy for a while.''
