St Regis set to start Gaming Academy
Gaming training for residents to get casino jobs will be on offer next month at the newly opened St Regis Bermuda Resort.
The 122-room hotel, which formally opened on May 22, announced that its casino gaming academy would start on June 21.
It comes in the wake of the Senate passing legislation last week paving the way for the start of gaming in Bermuda.
The island’s first casino is set to open this summer at the resort.
The 12-week workshops will train residents aged 18 and above in casino table games such as baccarat, blackjack, craps, poker and roulette.
The Casino Gaming Commission announced in January that the hotel would lead in the training of casino staff.
A St Regis spokesman said the courses, developed with gaming specialists, would come with the guidance of casino professionals.
He added the course would furnish participants with the professional dealing skills required to pursue “a career in the casino gaming industry”.
The St Regis spokesman said the gaming course would also focus on “proficiency and attention to detail to maintain the highest level of security and integrity in all casino table games”.
After successfully completing the casino gaming academy, participants are to be hired into “a casino position that matches their strength and talents”.
Over the weekend, the Bermuda Job Board advertised 50 gaming academy positions available at the resort.
No experience or qualifications in the industry were called for.
The post said the academy, which has not yet had its location announced, would be a place where “seasoned as well as new individuals can learn the art of dealing within all of the various tables that are the driving factor of the operation”.
Entry-level job types, both full and part-time, were listed as “contract, temporary, permanent, seasonal”.
Government approval of the multimillion development at the East End was first announced in 2014.
