A centenarian was among the 283 people who turned up for the latest round of the mobile vaccination programme for the coronavirus over the weekend.

Myrtle Burrows, 102, arrived at the National Sports Centre in Devonshire on Saturday for the jab.

There were 189 first doses given, along with 94 second doses.

Ms Burrows was welcomed by David Burt, the Premier, who hailed the “amazing turnout”.

He added there was “a very festive atmosphere as we have more and more residents coming out to ensure that Bermuda can reach community protection – so that this country can move beyond the pandemic”.

The next mobile vaccinations will be held tomorrow from 10am to 2pm at the Shelly Bay MarketPlace, in Hamilton Parish. Appointments are not needed.

A free minibus service will take people from their homes to the vaccination site and back. Residents can call 533-5903 between 10am and 1.30pm to get the service.

Mr Burt thanked the businesses and other organisations that supported Saturday’s vaccination event.

Frontline Foundation, Red Laser and Auto Solutions staff gave out gift cards and free meals from the caterer Kenny's Kitchen to those who came for their vaccinations.

Mr Burt was joined by Walter Roban, the Deputy Premier, and government MP Ianthia Simmons Wade.

The Premier also thanked doctors and nurses who attended to answer questions, along with staff from the Ministry of Public Works and the Royal Bermuda Regiment.
