Conor White continues superb start to domestic road race season
Conor White continued his impressive start to the Bermuda Bicycle Association road racing season with victory in the VT Construction Individual Time-Trial yesterday.
Building on the momentum of victory in the season opening BRCC Individual Time-Trial and an impressive second-place finish in the Sinclair Packwood Memorial Race, White sealed a dominant win in the Open 19 to 39 Division.
Taking on the ten-mile course starting and finishing on Kindley Field Road, St George’s, the 21-year-old crossed the line in a winning time of 21min 24sec, comfortably clear of nearest divisional rivals Wouter Aarts, who finished in 26:00 and Keiran Malott, in 26:40.
Alexander Miller and Tommy Marshall, both competing in the Junior 17 to 18 category, clocked the second and third-fastest times overall, with the former, building on his third-place finish in the Packwood race, the divisional honours in a time of 22:30, slightly more than two minutes faster than Marshall. Liana Madeiros completed the top three in 28:51.
There was also joy for Thomas Quarterly, who claimed victory in the 15 to 16 age division in a winning time of 28:33 ahead of Charlotte Millington, who clocked 30:29.
It proved a close battle in the Masters over-40 division, where Kris Hedges narrowly pipped Kent Richardson for victory. Hedges ultimately prevailed, crossing the line in 24:57, fractionally ahead of his nearest rival who clocked 25:12. Geoff Smith completed the top three places, just five seconds slower than Richardson.
The event also included a shorter course for competitors 14 and under, also starting and finishing on Kindley Field Road but consisting of a distance of 2.6 miles.
Jackson Langley claimed victory in the oldest age division, 13 to 14, crossing the line in a winning time of 7:20, comfortably ahead of Ollie Hayward who clocked 7:46 just four hundredths of a second faster than Fenella Wightman.
There was also a dominant display from Jacob Wright in the 11 to 12 age division, who clocked the fastest time of 7:43, slightly more than 34 seconds clear of nearest rival Jeon Wolfe in 8:17, who was a further 20 seconds faster than third-placed Dylan Eiselt.
Rory Shepherd proved the standout performer in the 10 and under age division, claiming a comfortable win, clocking nine minutes flat, to finish clear of second-placed Walker Smith, who in turn was another 19 seconds quicker than Daisy Langley.
