Government launches employment website
A new Government website ? www.dlt.gov.bm ? has been created to offer direct access to a comprehensive range of employment-related services.
The Department of Labour and Training promises that the new site will be a great advantage to both employers and job seekers.
With the click of a mouse, job seekers and career activists can now view the Department?s recent list of job vacancies and find out what training is available and when.
Users can print-off, complete and fax back the Department?s Job Vacancy Form for instant and free job listings on the website.
The site also provides a career planning guide and information on what is new at the Department.
Users can also view, fill in and download a printable version of the Summer Employment Programme Application Form.
But the form can only be submitted in person during the official registration period ? December 1 to December 31.
The site provides easy access to a large number of labour relations forms, publications and expert advice, including statements of employment and earnings, the Employment Act 2000, labour statistics, and a frequently asked questions section.
The Annual Careers Fair, the Department?s mission and contact details are also available on the site.
?The third Bermudian ?blog? has been launched ? www.pondblog.com.
A blog is a type of web page that allows visitors to comment on the day?s news and draw attention to articles and other material. They are a relatively new phenomenon, but have increased in number very quickly, with some putting the total worldwide on the web at more than a million. columnist Gavin Shorto has launched the newest blog. ?Mine is an international blog in the sense that it focuses on world news as opposed to local news,? he said.
?My concentration on world news doesn?t mean that local news is excluded entirely. I did post some comments recently on the Bank of Bermuda take-over.
?But international news is my chief interest, and I am anxious to see if I can compete, in time, with some of the better-known names in the field.
?I?m under no illusion that I?ll be able to do that overnight. Building up an international readership is a long and difficult process. But, if I I keep at it, I think I have at least a chance of getting to where I want to go.
?My aim is to provide content that will help the reader understand what?s going on in the world a little better. I hope Bermudians will bookmark the site and make it part of their newsreading day.?
Other Bermudian blogs are A Limey in Bermuda (www.philipwells.com) and Bermy Adventures(www.bermyadventures.com).
