BIBA holds student event
Bermuda International Business Association's (BIBA) second annual student networking event next month.
Organisers stress that the July 13 event at the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute will also cover topics outside of world commerce.
Dueane Dill, Chairman of BIBA's Local Marketing Committee, said: "Last year, more than 175 students attended this event.
"From the feedback, both the students and the industry representatives found the event useful. Mutually beneficial contacts were made.
"We are looking forward to giving students the opportunity to make what could be the first step of a successful career.'' Nina Jacobs, BIBA's Local Programmes Coordinator, added: "This is an excellent opportunity to make contacts and get first hand information from people working in the industry.'' She added that applications were already coming in -- some from students who had yet to return from studies overseas.
"The event is open to those studying at Bermuda College as well as in universities abroad, so we advise people to get their applications in quickly.'' Ms Jacobs stressed that the event was not just aimed at future accountants or underwriters.
"We are covering a wider range of industry than those directly linked to international business.
"Even if students are not doing a technical degree, they should still consider this opportunity.
"Areas such as marketing and hospitality are being covered, in addition to more obvious careers.'' Groups such as the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Bar Association will participate.
Topics covered will be: accounting, banking, e-commerce, hospitality, information technology, insurance, investment management, law, marketing and telecommunications.
To register, visit BIBA's website at www.biba.org or call Ms Jacobs on 292-0632.
