Mansfield hope to unleash Lambe on Carlisle
Reggie Lambe could be in line to make his debut for Sky Bet League Two side Mansfield Town against Carlisle United at the One Call Stadium tomorrow.
Lambe, who impressed on trial at Mansfield last week, is hoping to receive his international clearance in time to take on Carlisle, who are bottom of the league with just three points from eight games.
Micky Moore, the first-team coach, said that he believed Lambe would give Mansfield a different attacking dimension.
“We don’t anticipate any hiccups [with the international clearance],” Moore told the Mansfield Chad newspaper yesterday.
“We think we can get over the line and we’d be disappointed if we didn’t. We hope over the next 24 hours it will be done and dusted.
“We had Reggie here on trial and saw him in a couple of games. He was highlighted as one who could definitely add something to us.
“He has played in the MLS and is a Bermuda international. He is a good player and adds something different to us that we’ve not got. We are looking forward to working with him.”
Lambe scored two goals in a behind-closed-doors friendly match for Mansfield against North Counties East Football League side Worksop last week.
He had been on trial at League One side Bradford City in pre-season after a three-month stint at Swedish side Nyköpings.
The 23-year-old began his career with Championship side Ipswich Town and was given his debut by manager Roy Keane.
He had a loan spell at Bristol Rovers, who have since been relegated to non-League football, before joining Major League Soccer side Toronto FC, where he made 66 appearances, scoring five goals. He was released in March.
Moore said that John Radford, the club’s chairman, had given manager Paul Cox the green light to bring in another new player.
“There is no time frame,” Moore said. “We will bring in a player when the time is right. The manager had a meeting with the chairman on Monday and he gave him backing to bring in two players, and we are very grateful for him allowing us to do that.
“We have had a number of trialists in and watched a lot of games and we have earmarked a number of potential players.
“But they have got to be a good player and a good person to come into our environment. We are just doing our due diligence to make sure that’s right.”
