Senior Magistrate Warner to retire
Archibald Warner is set to retire as Senior Magistrate next month.
In a statement released this afternoon, Governor George Fergusson announced that Juan Wolffe had been appointed to succeed Mr Warner on October 20.
While Mr Warner will spend his last day as Senior Magistrate on October 19, he will continue to serve as a magistrate for another two years.
The Governor said: “I am delighted that Mr Wolffe has accepted the role of Senior Magistrate. He has served diligently in the role of magistrate over the last eight-and-a-half years and has shown that he has the skills and experience necessary to manage the administration of the Magistrates’ Court.
“I am also pleased to announce that Mr Warner has graciously agreed to serve a further term of two years after he demits the office as Senior Magistrate. Mr Warner’s experience will continue to be an asset to the Judiciary. I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to his enormous public service as the Senior Magistrate for the past 14 years — an extraordinary record.”
The appointment of Senior Magistrate is made by the Governor after consultation with the Judicial and Legal Services Committee (JLSC).
Government House stated that the post of Senior Magistrate was advertised and candidates were interviewed by the committee who in turn made a recommendation to the Governor, which he accepted.
