Digicel announces new internet rates, says lowest in Bermuda
Digicel has knocked down its internet pricing, announcing yesterday that its new reduced rates are the lowest in Bermuda, continuing the trend of more affordable internet as telecoms reform takes hold in the industry.Digicel said in a statement it has introduced a new line up of home internet plans with “the lowest prices ever seen in Bermuda”.Starting at $30 per month for 2 Mb per second speeds, the new plans make faster speeds more easily accessible for all residents, the provider said.“When Digicel first purchased Transact and started offering home internet in November 2011, we told the public that we intended to bring prices down by enhancing competition,” said Digicel Bermuda CEO, Wayne Caines. “Within two months, annual internet rates were up to $130 lower for the same speeds.”Mr Caines continued, “We have continued to knock down internet prices, leading the competition in our goal to make internet more affordable for the average Bermudian. Our new, reduced rates demonstrate this commitment. An 8 Mb plan, which our competitors were selling for $129.95 per month in 2011, is now available for just $70 per month. There is no denying that Digicel has knocked down internet prices drastically.”Customers switching to Digicel Internet will enjoy the first three months of their home internet service free upon signing up for one of the new plans, the company said.“By calling or sending us an e-mail, customers can specify if they wish to stay at the same speed and pay less, or if they wish to pay the same — or slightly less — and receive faster service,” explained Mr Caines.Current Digicel internet customers are encouraged to call 500-5000 or to e-mail info.bermuda@digicelgroup.com to switch to the new plans.More information about the new plans may be found at www.digicelbermuda.com.Since Integrated Communications Operating Licences (ICOLS) were issued, providers Logic (North Rock) has lowered its internet pricing, and TBi launched residential internet.TBi packages start at 4 Mbps for $49.95 to 25 Mbps plans for $159.95 a month with no contract required.
