Teen arrested after Railway Trail robbery

A 47-year-old man has been injured, and a teenager arrested, after an attempted robbery with a bladed article along the Railway Trail near Spring Hill, Warwick.

Police responded to the attack at 9.30pm yesterday, reporting that the victim, a Warwick resident, had been walking along the trail when he was set upon by a lone assailant.

The man was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and subsequently discharged, while a 17-year-old suspect, also of Warwick, was arrested nearby.

Police have called for witnesses, or anyone who might have been in the vicinity of Bright Temple AME Church in Warwick at around 9pm, to contact the Criminal Investigation Unit at 247-1383 or 247-1429.

Police also reported arresting “two juveniles” on Friday in connection with counterfeit currency. The two were released on police bail pending further inquiries.

Officers issued a renewed warning of fake bills, particularly $50 and $100 notes, currently circulating in the Island.

Anyone receiving counterfeit cash is asked to note the description of the individual who tendered it and contact authorities at once. It is a criminal offence to make, possess or pass along counterfeit money.

Police additionally reported making a total of 13 arrests over the weekend for outstanding warrants.
