The leadership of the One Bermuda Alliance remains unchanged after nobody stepped forward to challenge Premier Michael Dunkley.

There has also been no challenger for the position of deputy leader, currently filled by Bob Richards, and only one nomination for the role of party chairman, Senator Lynne Woolridge.

As such all three have been confirmed in their respective roles by the party. An election between challengers would have taken place at the OBA’s annual meeting on September 27.

Following a meeting of party officials at OBA HQ on Reid Street earlier this evening, an OBA spokesman confirmed that Mr Dunkley, along with deputy leader and Finance Minister Mr Richards were still at the helm of the party and Government.

In a statement, the spokesman said: “One Bermuda Alliance Chair, Senator Lynne Woolridge, today announced the newly elected leadership of the Party.

“Michael Dunkley, Premier of Bermuda and Minister of National Security has been elected as OBA Leader. E.T. Richards, Minister of Finance, has been elected as OBA Deputy Leader. Senator Lynne Woolridge has been elected as OBA Chair. Pursuant to the OBA Constitution all three were duly elected by acclaim being the only contenders who challenged for the three roles. The elected individuals assume the posts effective immediately.”

Following the meeting, Mr Dunkley said: “The One Bermuda Alliance has had time for serious introspection and honest, frank discussion. We are unified in our desire to work in the best interests of all Bermudians. We are keen to get on with the people’s business and get Bermuda working for Bermudians. I am encouraged by the passion and drive of our executive and members to ensure that we address all issues and concerns — be they social, economic or environmental — to ensure a sustainable and prosperous future for all.”

Senator Woolridge added: “I look forward to working with the executive and membership to bring about good governance, sound policies that assist those most in need, and continue in our efforts to grow our economy and provide jobs for Bermudians.”

Mr Dunkley has been party leader since Craig Cannonier stood down as Premier in May following the ‘Jetgate’ row.

Thad Hollis resigned from the position of OBA chairman earlier this year after conducting an investigation into matters connected with the Jetgate controversy.
