Premier meets Indian and Mexican diplomats
Premier Michael Dunkley has visited Indian and Mexican diplomats in New York in a bid to drum up business for Bermuda.
Mr Dunkley met Ambassador Dnyaneshwar Mulay and Mexican Ambassador Sandra Fuentes-Berain at their New York consulates on Friday.
And both said they hoped to visit the Island later this year for further talks on strengthening relationships.
Mr Dunkley said afterwards: “I was impressed with the level of interest by both countries in Bermuda.”
And he added that both countries had said they “want to enter into continued dialogue with us with a view towards formalising our good will toward each other.”
Mr Dunkley added: “This represents a significant step forward in boosting potential business as well as tourism for Bermuda.”
Both countries are members of the G-20 group of industrialised nations and have strong economies worth more than $1 trillion.
Mr Mulay said that India — and its expatriates in America — had potential for both tourism and business in Bermuda, especially in areas like financial technology, pharmaceuticals, biotech and hospitality.
Mr Mulay earlier this year hosted a reception for Bermuda and Indian business people to help boost both business and tourism.
Mr Dunkley added that Ms Fuentes was a keen angler and expressed an interest in fishing in Bermuda and the shipping industry.
He added: “Overall, they were productive and fruitful meetings and I look forward to growing our already blooming relationships with both India and Mexico.”
