Schools announce IB and AP results
Bermuda High School for Girls and Warwick Academy have announced their 2011 International Baccalaureate Diploma results.Full diploma pass rates of 76 and 72 percent respectively, were recorded at the schools.Meanwhile, Saltus Grammar School announced that 18 of its students were named AP Scholars, with seven earning the accolade of AP National Scholar.BHS principal Linda Parker said: “We are delighted to report that our IB Diploma results were superlative this year, our highest score being 44 points out of the possible 45 points.“One hundred percent of our IB2 students achieved certificates at both the higher and standard levels; 76 percent of the 34 students, who were entered at the diploma level, received the full diploma.“Our top scoring student was Katie Cusumano who received 44 points out of the possible 45 points. This placed her at the top 0.4 percent of students, worldwide.”Warwick Academy principal Maggie McCorkell said that school was proud of its students for maintaining its pass rate.“It is very pleasing to see this percentage remain at this level as the IB Diploma is a very rigorous and intensely challenging academic programme,” she said.“This also maintains the school’s average of 28 points per diploma candidate, which keeps us in line with the average for IB schools worldwide.”The highest scoring students at the school were Megan Blee, Katrina Lavender and Alexander Brown, with 37 points each.Headmaster Ted Staunton at Saltus praised his students for their success in the AP testing process, noting the school’s national scholar winners. Such students earned at least four out of five on all AP exams, and four or higher on five or more exams.The highest scoring student was Daniel Andrade, with six Grade 5s and one Grade 3.Mr Staunton also commended Hannah Gibbons, who achieved AP scholar status with two Grade 5s and one Grade 4, after completing only her first year of the programme.
